Laryngectomy Support Group

Practical help and support

The Laryngectomy support group meets on the second Wednesday of each month between 2pm-4pm at Vine House, CancerHelp Preston.

They meet in relaxed surroundings and provide a welcome to all laryngectomee’s, their carers, family and friends; they invite professionals to keep the group up to date with all things to do with medical needs, and usually have a member of the Speech and Language Team from the Royal Preston Hospital attending.

The group organise a buddy scheme which begins pre-operation and continues for as long as needed. They can also help signpost to other organisations if specialist help is required.

Certain members spread the word “Raising Awareness of Neck Breathers” by making presentations to groups ranging from St John’s Ambulance, University and Medical students.

“Despite the fact that we have lost our voice boxes our meetings are usually full of chatter and sharing of tips and tricks of the trade – all with the aim of supporting each other and improving our quality of life”.

“Come and join us one Wednesday, you will be made very welcome”
